The middle east region is not a stranger to whirling winds of dust and sand. Situated in the Mid-West Asia, nations in the Arabian Peninsula are frequently affected by wind gusts of loose sand and dirt common from dry surfaces and deserts blown long distances. Mere talks in the region says that when a dust storm occurs, an indication of a “weather-change” occurs, followed by scattered amounts of rainfall. Expect that a change in temperature happens hours after a dust storm takes place.
Although an indication of change is weather condition, dust storm impose threats towards the safety and health of people affected. Dust particles, if inhaled, may cause long-term serious harm to health according to medical experts especially for people who experience asthma and other lung problems. Moreover, dust storms can cause accidents in the road, or even at work and open areas.
However, with a right safety measures and plan in place, be rest-assured that dust and sand storm-related hazards are minimized and controlled. Professionals in developing plans and identifying risks and hazards are experts in mitigating accidents when these natural phenomena occurs.
Here are some safety tips we advise:
- Avoid going outside, especially if there is low visibility and high winds
- Do not do any outside exercise
- Cover your nose and mouth with a mask or damp cloth when you must venture outside
- Try not to rub your eyes. In case they become itchy, rinse with water.
- Keep a bottle of water on your side as it can be easily dehydrating.
- If a dust storm strikes when you are driving, slow down and try to pull to the side of the road when possible, until it is safe to resume driving.
