Course Aim

To provide participants with the basic skills and knowledge in order to recognize and provide immediate first aid for a range of common illnesses and injuries. This training is suitable for individuals, companies and organizations, and will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to make them confident and competent to perform First Aid.

  • Describe how to recognize and provide first aid treatment for sudden cardiac arrest.
  • Explain the priority of personal safety when responding to an emergency.
  • Explain the importance of Universal Precautions and using protective barriers.
  • Identify how to activate emergency medical services (EMS) or an occupational emergency action plan.
  • Explain how to perform effective chest compressions.
  • Describe how to perform effective rescue breaths using a CPR mask or shield.
  • Describe the steps of a primary assessment for an unresponsive person.
  • Explain how to protect the airway of an unresponsive, breathing victim.
  • Describe the steps for safely and correctly attaching and operating an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Describe how to recognize and provide first aid treatment for choking.
  • Describe the steps of a primary assessment for a responsive victim.
  • Describe how to recognize and provide first aid treatment for severe bleeding.
  • Describe how to recognize and provide treatment for shock.
